Guru Ram Das Ji completed the pool in 1577 and the fifth Guru Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji laid the foundation of this temple in 1589. The copy of Adi Granth was placed in 1604 by Guru Arjan Dev Ji. During Mughal and Afghan eras, Golden Temple witnessed attacks. In 1809, the temple was renovated by Maharaja Ranjit Singh Ji with gold foil and hence named the Golden Temple.
Seek blessings in Golden Temple and also witness Dukh Bhanjani Ber Tree which means ‘eradicator of suffering’is located in the Golden Temple Complex. This tree holds spiritual importance and stands on side of Amrit Sarovar. It is believed that Bibi Rajani’s husband was cured of leprosy by taking a dip in the pond in proximity to the tree.
Proceed to Jallianwala Bagh which holds historical significance and is located near the Golden Temple Complex. This public garden is a memorial of people who were killed by British soldiers in 1919. Near about 1500 people were killed when they were peacefully demanding the release of leaders. Still, you can witness bullet holes in the walls. Martyrs’ Gallery displays portraits of figures and you can also see an eternal flame.
Later visit Wagah Border and experience the power of the Indian army. Here you feel like a patriotic party where Bollywood patriotic music is played and people dance whole-heartedly. You can see Indian flags waving all over.

This ceremony begins just before sunset and soldiers from both sides march toward the gates of their respective nations. The gates are opened and they salute each other and begin lowering the flags which are folded later on. For the complete ceremony, people are filled with strong patriotic feelings.
